Taking photos that sell

Taking-photo

We’re all visual creatures at heart – and appealing photos will get your listing more attention than any amount of pithy description will.

That’s not to say that any old photos will do; there’s an art to taking shots that stand out. Try our handy list of tips to get snaps that drive sales.

Use natural lighting

Capture your items in soft, natural light to enhance the colors and reduce shadows.

Keep the background simple

Use a clean, neutral backdrop to keep the focus on your product.

Show multiple angles

Take photos from both the front and the back – and from the sides if necessary – to give people a better sense of the garment.

Highlight key features

Take close-ups of distinctive details, like fabric texture, buttons or other unique design elements – along with close-ups of any damaged or worn areas (to avoid surprising the buyer and getting your item returned).

Use a model or mannequin

Showcase your item on an actual person or a mannequin to help the garment hang properly, so buyers can better visualise how it might look on them.

If you’re using a model, you may want to keep their face out of frame to help maintain their privacy.

Keep it consistent

Keep your lighting, background and styling consistent across all your photos, to give your listings a more cohesive look.
